BARCLAYS Bank Southern Africa regional managing director Zafar Masud has pledged the bank’s commitment to its agenda of reinventing the financial sector in Zambia.

During the launch of Barclays Bank Plc's Premier Banking in Lusaka yesterday, Masud said the introduction of a new product by his bank was the birth of extraordinary banking in Zambia.

“This is a historic day for Barclays Bank Zambia and the mass affluent market who we commit to offer a proposition providing unsurpassed service never experienced before in Zambia,” he said.

“Through Premier Banking, we are offering a unique blend of truly luxurious facilities and desirable third party alliances. The enhanced proposition has been designed with a focus on excellent service, efficiency, wealth protection and growth.”

Masud said members of Premier Banking would have access to premier centres and benefits across the globe with benefits including access to office, conference and meeting room facilities in all member countries.

“Customers will also enjoy all benefits from premier alliance partners in all member countries, including access to airport lounge suites specifically for Barclays Premier members,” he said.

“Through Premier Banking, we will be offering our customers innovation par excellence at its best. Membership of this first class service to be accessed from our Elunda Office Park premises is strictly by invitation and we reserve the right of admission.”

Masud added that Barclays Bank prided itself in having the flexibility and experience to provide products that were best suited to the needs of its customers worldwide.

“Premier Banking clients will be entitled to lifestyle benefits or discounts from our strategic partners such as airlines, hotels, car hires and gyms. They will also receive VIP treatment including their business guests. Other facilities such as airport or hotel pick-ups by VIP car to Elunda Premier Centre will be available upon request,” said Masud.

I guess Barclays can be counted out as far as banking the poor is concerned. All they require is a bank that will pay them interest on deposits above inflation and not charge outrageous user fees to conduct transactions. Somehow I don't think such clients will require VIP cars to pick them up at their hotels.
