ZAMBIAN Airways should be probed thoroughly, Copperbelt minister Mwansa Mbulakulima yesterday said.
Receiving a petition from Copperbelt Constitution Coalition (CCC), International Ministers Fellowship and Affiliated Churches (IMFAC), Constituency Concerned Citizens Forum (CCCF) that were demanding the removal of Task Force on Corruption prosecutor Mutembo Nchito from his post pending the completion of investigations into the operations of Zambian Airways, Mbulakulima said no one was above the law.
He said Zambia was governed by tenets of the rule of law and that no person whether in the private or public sector was above the law.
"Zambian Airways should be probed thoroughly. I want to assure you that I will do what you want, I am merely a conveyor belt and I will deliver your message to His Honour the Vice-President today [yesterday]," said Mbulakulima.
CCC chairperson Patrick Mnthanga said an inquiry should be set up to investigate the operations of Zambian Airways and that directors made to pay back monies owed.
IMFAC president Paul Mulenga was at pains to explain why his organisation did not also ask communications minister Dora Siliya to step aside as proceedings of the Tribunal set up to ascertain her alleged corrupt acts was sitting.
Mulenga said Siliya's situation was different from Nchito's because the former was not directly linked to her investigations since there was a tribunal in place.
Among those present was Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Villie Lombanya.
In the joint petition signed by the Constituency Concerned Citizens Forum, publicity chairman Wilbroad Mutoloka, the petitioners claimed that Nchito was an interested party whose functions would compromise the investigation process.
On Monday, some organisations presented a petition to Vice-President George Kunda to have Nchito removed as Task Force Prosecutor as the probe into Zambian Airways was going on.
