UNITED Nations Development Programme has pledged to work with the Ministry of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion in attaining Zimbabwe’s economic recovery.

UNDP’s intentions in the country at the moment are to boost the crafting of macro-economic policies that reinforce with the recently launched Short Term Economic Programme.

Speaking at a recent ceremony where the organisation handed over computers to the Ministry of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion, UNDP said they would do their best in assisting the country to attain economic independence.

"We are here to help the nation in capacity building and we will do whatever it takes to assist the country," said Dr Agostinho Zacarias, the United Nations country representative.

Currently UNDP is implementing international training courses that will assist the country in coming up with strategies that will help the economic recovery of the country.

"The responsibility of the ministry is to plan the economic recovery of the country whilst at the same time providing leadership within the economic clusters of the government hence the training courses will go a long way in making the job easier for the ministry," said Mr Zacarias.

Mr Zacarias also noted that the participation of stakeholders was vital in nation building and this was encouraged through the development of a website, which would facilitate communication between prospective investors in and out of the country.

The website would also enable the Ministry to interact and receive ideas from different sectors of the economy and it was open to everyone from both the civil and business society.

UNDP had recently noted that one strategic objective in a recovery scenario would be the return to sound macroeconomic management.

This was stated in a report entitled "Comprehensive Economic Recovery in Zimbabwe" which states that macroeconomic stability needs to be tackled in order to trigger a sustainable, broadbased, pro-poor recovery dynamic.

This document is in line with the recently implemented STERP, which also looks at boosting macro-economic policies for economic recovery.
