Veep calls for increased food production
By Times Reporter

VICE-President, George Kunda has called for increased agricultural production to enable Zambia have sustainable food security. Mr Kunda said in the quest to develop Zambia, the Government would put emphasis on the diversification of the economy by prioritising agriculture.

Mr Kunda said agriculture would now take centre stage and receive more attention from the Government. He was speaking at Lukulu Airstrip yesterday after conducting an aerial view of the flood situation in the district.

He said the Government would continue with the fertiliser support programme as a means of boosting food production in the country.

“We must increase food production so that we can have enough food even when we suffer from floods,” he said

Mr Kunda also told Lukulu residents who welcomed him at the airstrip that the Government would this year spend more than K26 billion to construct Lukulu Boarding High School.

He said the Government attached great importance to the education sector

The vice-president appealed to the people of Lukulu to continue with the spirit of unity so that the Government could operate in a peaceful environment and bring about development.

Mr Kunda is today scheduled to tour Kaoma and Senanga districts to assess the flood situation.

In Kaoma, he is expected to pay a courtesy call on Senior Chief Amukena while in Senanga he would visit the Nalolo Royal Establishment.
