VICE-President George Kunda on Wednesday declined to say whether or not he will resign following demands that he steps down from his position. When he was cornered by Lusaka's Muvi TV at Lusaka City Airport for an interview on the demands that he resigns for misleading the nation when he defended former minister of communications and transport Dora Siliya after she illegally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RP Capital Partners Limited, Vice-President Kunda said the matter was going to court but would not give details in what context the matter was going to court.
"No comment on that one. No! We are not commenting on that. That matter is going to court. Thank you," said Vice-President Kunda, who had gone to see off President Rupiah Banda on his way to Harare, Zimbabwe.
Siliya has indicated that she is considering seeking judicial review of the findings of the tribunal.
Several members of the public have demanded Vice-President Kunda's resignation over his statement that Siliya had authorisation from the Attorney General's chambers for her to go ahead to sign the MoU with RP Capital Partners Limited to valuate Zamtel assets.
However, the judge Dennis Chirwa-chaired tribunal found that Siliya had ignored the legal advice from the Attorney General's chambers.
Siliya subsequently resigned from her ministerial position.
Former minister of communications and transport William Harrington and 10 civil society organisations that had petitioned the chief justice to set up a tribunal to probe Siliya, soon after the tribunal's findings demanded for Vice-President Kunda's resignation.
