BARCLAYS Bank Plc unionized workers have been awarded a 15 per cent (K600,000) salary increment across the board. Speaking at the signing ceremony between the bank and the Zambia Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers (ZUFIAWU) on Friday, ZUFIAWU president Joyce Nonde-Simukoko said as difficult as it may have been, the negotiations reached a conclusion.
She said Barclays Bank had done a lot in many areas like women empowerment and HIV and AIDS and had continued to have a lot of customers.
And Barclays Bank Zambia acting managing director Patrick Wanjelani said the bank was operating in a very difficult time when the country was experiencing the effects of the credit crunch.
Wanjelani said the financial melt down had caught up with them and had brought about a number of challenges not only to the business but to the banking industry as a whole.
He said negotiating during these hard times had not been easy as could be seen by the strikes being experienced all over.
"The two parties have agreed on a number of items among these being a salary increment of 15 percent across the board. Barclays Bank Plc remains committed to staff welfare even in these difficult times, staff come first," said Wanjelani.
