PATRIOTIC Front (PF) president Michael Sata has said that the government's inability to provide good health facilities has resulted in his granddaughter's death.
Speaking at the funeral of his granddaughter Kayula, Sata said if the government had provided good health facilities, his granddaughter and many other innocent Zambians would not have died avoidable deaths.
4-year-old Kayula who was the daughter of Sata's first-born child, Mulenga, died of cancer of the abdomen at the University Teaching Hospital.
Sata complained that the doctors and nurses had no equipment to use even when they wanted to attend to people's health problems.
“My granddaughter has died because of inertia from this government. It is not the health workers' strike that has caused my granddaughter's death, but inertia from this government. The doctors knew what was supposed to have been done but they were handicapped,” Sata said.
“I could see panic and desperation in the doctors and nurses who were attending to my grand daughter but there was no equipment to use. They tried under difficult circumstances, but the situation could not help. Instead of buying hospital equipment, this government diverted money to the NCC [National Constitutional Conference] and the indaba. Let President Banda stop spending money on defending Dora Siliya and look at the health sector.”
The funeral gathering is off Roan Road Kabulonga, and burial will be announced later.
