Ngoma urges incentives for local entrepreneursWritten by Kabanda Chulu
GOVERNMENT should create deliberate policies to enhance the growth and survival of local entrepreneurs in the face of the global financial and economic challenges, Strong Technologies Zambia chief executive Lloyd Ngoma has said.
Announcing two additional channels to the My TV satellite television bouquet, Ngoma yesterday said indigenous businesses were capable of making huge contributions to the country’s economic growth and development.
“Local entrepreneurs are not asking for incentives but just a conducive environment to allow them an opportunity to do business and move forward and consequently survive the current challenges. And while big corporations are folding and others going into liquidation, we have remained steadfast and somehow manage to weather the global recession,” Ngoma said.
“We believe in no shortcuts in business because all businesses built on elusion such as ‘get rich quick’ ultimately crash but our company is built on strong principals, focused team and working within our means. And in the midst of the recession, we have managed to buy two channels, that is Fox Entertainment and Silverbird, which are both globally acclaimed.”
My TV is a wholly Zambian-owned satellite channel operated by Strong Technologies and has been in operation since 2006, with a current subscriber base of over 8,000.
