MMD national secretary Katele Kalumba yesterday said Willa Mung'omba is a senior leader and must avoid getting into presidential campaign politics in the party.
Commenting on MMD member Mung'omba's statement that the party should obey the constitution by allowing members to contest for positions at the convention and that President Rupiah Banda should be challenged, Kalumba said this was not the right time to start talking about campaign politics in the MMD.
He said MMD members like Mung'omba should be more preoccupied with service delivery to the people rather than talking about positions in the party.
"I have ordered party members formally and publicly about the need not to get into this campaign talking. I have told all, and Mr Mung'omba is a senior leader and I think he must understand the need not to get into these political campaigns now," Kalumba said.
Kalumba said it was also imprudent politically for members to start raising issues of whether the party should have a convention or not.
Kalumba said party members should learn to raise these issues at an appropriate time.
Commenting on the endorsement of President Banda as MMD's sole candidate by NEC and the statement by party spokesperson Benny Tetamashimba that the presidency would not be contested for at the convention, Mung'omba asked the MMD to obey the constitution by allowing members to contest for any position in the party.
