BWEENGWA UPND Member of Parliament Highvie Hamududu yesterday said President Rupiah Banda is fatigued hence his failure to respond to challenges facing the country.

In an interview, Hamududu said he was disappointed that President Banda did not respond to the issues raised by the chiefs during the Lwiindi Traditional Ceremony that was held in Monze district on Sunday.

Hamududu, whose constituency is in Monze district, said the chiefs expressed concerns on maize marketing and on the issue of fertiliser landing in wrong hands.

“I was thinking that the President would take advantage of the ceremony and address issues facing the people in Southern Province but when he was called upon to speak, he never gave any speech but just made few remarks,” Hamududu observed.

“The chiefs raised concerns on maize marketing which was not going well, fertiliser distribution and the issue of fertiliser landing in wrong hands and I would have loved the President to respond to those issues but, the man squandered that opportunity.”

Hamududu said people who were floating President Banda as a sole candidate for the MMD were being unfair to him because he was generally fatigued.

“The man is generally fatigued and you want to put him as a sole candidate for the MMD, you are being unfair to him because the man needs to take a rest and we need people with fresh ideas,” he said. “You have a government of more than 60 ministers but failing to perform why? It is because they are all tired?

Hamududu also called on the ministry of finance to make sure that it releases Constituency Development Funds CDF's on time.

“How do you expect rural areas to develop when CDF is being released very late? For instance, CDF for last year was only released in December and when do you expect development to take place?” asked Hamududu.
