PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda is this Sunday expected to leave for Uganda to attend the Smart Partnership meeting. Special assistant to the President for press and public relations Dickson Jere stated that President Banda, who is the current chairman of the Smart Partnership, was expected to officially hand over the chairmanship to his Ugandan counterpart, President Yoweri Museveni.
Jere stated that President Banda would be accompanied to Uganda by first lady Thandiwe and some senior government officials. He stated that President Banda would return to Lusaka after attending the meeting.
Meanwhile, President Banda will tomorrow leave for a two-day working visit to Luapula Province where he would be expected to grace this year's Mutomboko Ceremony of the Lunda people.
Jere stated that President Banda had accepted an invitation by senior chief Mwata Kazembe of the Lunda people to be the guest of honour at the Mutomboko Ceremony to be held on Saturday, July 25, 2009 in Mwansabombwe.
He stated that President Banda would also hold meetings with senior government officials in the province before returning to Lusaka on Saturday afternoon.
Jere stated President Banda would be accompanied to Luapula Province by defense minister Dr Kalombo Mwansa, home affairs minister Lameck Mangani, communication and transport minister Professor Geoffrey Lungwangwa, livestock and fisheries minister Bradford Machila and youth, sports and child development deputy minister Angela Cifire.
