UPND president Hakainde Hichilema on Tuesday said President Rupiah Banda is not exhibiting the maturity befitting a man of his age. Commenting on President Banda's accusation that The Post was telling terrible lies, Hichilema expressed sadness at the President's outbursts.

"The country is being exposed to the worst leadership, a kind Zambians never thought Rupiah Banda would turn out to be. He always condemns people of insulting him," Hichilema said. "When we advise him he interprets it as insults. But look at the insults he is giving. It's sad for a man of his age."

He said President Banda was not exhibiting maturity.

"I thought he would be mature, a man of his age about 72 or is it 73 years or something but he is not," Hichilema said. "He is just a runaway, poor quality old President."

He said from the day President Banda assumed office he knew that he was bringing low quality to the presidency.

"We all knew that Rupiah did not believe in what the late president Levy Mwanawasa was doing. He was just there for convenience," he said.

Hichilema also criticized former President Frederick Chiluba for praising President Banda.

"It's sad that some former president is praising him. You can smell the intolerance Rupiah is exhibiting. I am not surprised that Rupiah Banda is doing that," said Hichilema. "His insults now on issues of red eyes and the issues of The Post. I can't even mention that myself, his statement on The Post."

Last Sunday, President Banda linked The Post to the opposition political parties' attempts to impeach him, accusing the newspaper of "ubufi bwakunya [lies of shitting]."
