LOCAL government minister Benny Tetamashimba has been evacuated to South Africa for medical treatment. Ministry of Health spokesperson Dr Kamoto Mbewe confirmed that Tetamashimba, who is also MMD spokesperson, was evacuated to South Africa on Sunday.
"He was evacuated on Sunday but was seen on Monday. He is admitted at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg," said Dr Mbewe. "However, I cannot disclose his illness. We don't do that. It's for investigations."
Sources in the Ministry of Local Government and Housing disclosed that Tetamashimba had not been well for the last few days and had not even been working.
When contacted for comment earlier, chief government spokesperson Lieutenant General Ronnie Shikapwasha said: "I have no idea whatsoever [that Tetamashimba has been evacuated]. I have been in the Great Lakes summit. This is my time to be in the office. You can call [minister of health] honourable [Kapembwa] Simbao."
