A LOCAL engineering company, Avlow Zambia has earmarked a US $10 million investment to establish a regional engineering centre for servicing heavy mining equipment.
Avlow Zambia is collaborating with the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) in implementing the project that is expected to generate and retain foreign exchange for the country.

The US $10 million re-investment is scheduled to be made over the next five years in regional expansion programmes, while the ZDA would provide facilitation services and ensure the signing of an Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement (IPPA).

Company managing director Tony Lithgow said the project would make Zambia a regional hub for the servicing of heavy industrial equipment.

“The company’s vision is to create engineering excellence in Zambia so that the country is well placed to become a regional hub. Training of Zambian technicians to the highest engineering standards has been a key part of the company’s strategies,” he said.

Lithgow said the partnership between his company and the government, through ZDA, would result in job creation for Zambians.

And ZDA investment promotion director Florence Mumba said the partnership was in line with the agency’s investment promotion drive that took advantage of available infrastructure and local skills.

Mumba said ZDA would use Avlow Zambia as a pilot project for other sectors to emulate.

Avlow Zambia is also developing a 10,000 hectare farm block in Mumbwa, as part of its diversification efforts.
