CHADIZA MMD member of parliament Allan Mbewe has said contractors who do shoddy works will not be given contracts in Chadiza. Featuring on Radio Maria on Friday last week, Mbewe, who is also energy deputy minister, said most of the roads in Chadiza were in a bad state.

"First of all, I don't want contractors who do shoddy works in Chadiza. If a contractor does a bad job that has not satisfied me and the people, then that contractor is not supposed to be paid. Now if somebody issues a certificate to certify that the work has been done and money should be given while the contractor has done a bad job, that person is supposed to be visited by the law," he said.

Mbewe said contractors who did shoddy works were not supposed to be given money.

"People in the community are supposed to see to it that a contractor is doing a good job. The headmen, civic leaders and many others are supposed to tell us that the job has not been properly done. You know, according to the law, contractors who do shoddy works are not supposed to be awarded other contracts because such contractors just want to steal from the government. Those who are making bridges, they should make good bridges, those who are repairing roads, they should do good jobs. If they don't they are not supposed to be given money and another contract," he said.

Mbewe said the Road Development Agency (RDA) would soon start repairing the Chipata-Chadiza road.

Mbewe said the road making equipment would also be dispatched to Chadiza to grade dilapidated roads.

And Mbewe said the government has allocated K1.7 billion for the third phase of the construction of the district hospital.

"We want this hospital to be opened before March next year so that people could be helped because people in Chadiza have been facing problems for a long time in as far as hospitals are concerned," said Mbewe.
