(TALKZIMBABWE) GPA clear on role of president and PM

GPA clear on role of president and PM

DEAR EDITOR - I wish to provide this advice free of charge to the MDC-T party. I recently heard ICT Minister Nelson Chamisa saying that there are two centres of power in Zimbabwe: the Presidency and the Prime Minister's Office.

Mr Chamisa also said that everything that happened before the formation of the inclusive Government is null and void; as there is a new administration. Such political posturing from a Cabinet minister is pathetic and ill-advised.

The hierarchy is clear in the Global Political Agreement: the President is the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, not PM Tsvangirai.

PM Tsvangirai chairs the Council of Ministers and reports directly to the President. The president consults, on issues, the PM and DPMs.

This is what the GPA, that the MDC-T signed, says.

Mr Chamisa can try and run away from that truth as much as he wants, but his party signed that document. They were not forced.

Such soundbites are nauseating. We expect more informed commentaries from Cabinet ministers on how they can extricate millions of Zimbabweans from poverty induced by illegal sanctions.
