(TALKZIMBABWE) Press should educate public on ZIDERA

COMMENT - I could not agree more. The way to stop lies is to catch them early and have the real data available to you.

Press should educate public on ZIDERA

DEAR EDITOR — This is an appeal to all newspapers. We are a group of young people interested in issues going on around us.

We believe that we speak for the majority of Zimbabweans when we say that we have heard and read a lot about the sanctions law passed by the United States of America which led to the imposition of economic sanctions on Zimbabwe.

We are referring to the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act of 2001 (Zidera). In order for us to argue from an informed point of view, we need to have easy access to this document, in languages that we all understand (English, Shona, Ndebele, etc).

As disseminators of information and as the media that highlights the various arguments about this law (both for and against), we are kindly requesting that you publish the whole Act in your newspapers.

The Government should also ensure that documents like this are easily accessible all over the country because most of us are lost in the arguments.

When you do not have a reference point, you end up speculating or even rubbishing what the analysts are saying.

This is also an important piece of the history of Zimbabwe — in a negative sense though.

We sincerely hope that you will respond to our appeal.

Chitungwiza.
