THE UPND/PF pact has condemned government for threatening senior chief Bright Nalubamba of the Ila people of Namwala in the Southern province of Zambia for supporting opposition political leaders.
Speaking in Lusaka yesterday, UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma said there was nothing wrong with the chief giving his views.
“It is disgusting that the whole government can descend on a chief that has democratically given his view. We have seen in the past the MMD parading chiefs,” he said.
Kakoma said government should stop abusing chiefs in that manner. “We have seen them (chiefs) openly campaigning so what is wrong with senior chief Nalubamba giving his views?” he asked.
He said the pact would support anyone who is in favour of the pact. “We fully support him, he is chief of the people who are in support of the pact and is telling government that come 2011 government will lose to the pact.”
“We therefore condemn government for issuing threats to the chief. We shall use our power to defend chief Nalubamba and anyone supporting the pact in the country,” said Kakoma.
