LUSAKA Central PF member of parliament Guy Scott has accused Zesco Limited of distributing power unfairly in the country. Dr Scott, who stormed Zesco acting managing director Cyprian Chitundu’s office in Lusaka yesterday, said it was sad that the poor in society were not given proper services as compared to the elite.
“I have come here specifically for the current Bauleni compound problem where they have had their transformer burst for the past two weeks now and this electricity supply has not been to the site to replace it with a new one or just to go and see what the problem is,” Scott said.
“And the other thing is load shedding. The poor in society are given unfair power services and yet they pay the electricity fees. It is important for Zesco Limited to change the way electricity supply is being serviced. I stay in State Lodge just near Bauleni and on a daily basis you find that there is load shedding, but that is not the case with my area.”
Dr Scott advised Zesco Limited to provide equal services to the people regardless of their status in society.
But Zesco acting managing director Cyprian Chitundu refuted the allegations, saying Zesco equitably distributed power to all sectors in the country.
He said most of those areas that experienced load shedding was as a result of consist ently heavy load lines.
Chitundu said Zesco had sent a team of engineers to Bauleni who reported that the transformer had burst because it was small.
“…I would like to assure Bauleni residents that Zesco will install a new transformer today and our apologies for the delay…,” said Chitundu.
