SOUTH Africa's President Jacob Zuma is in Zambia on a three-day state visit.
President Zuma, his wife Nompulele and other government officials arrived around 17:55 hours on Monday (December7, 2009) aboard a South African Air Force plane and were welcomed by President Rupiah Banda, First Lady Thandiwe and some Cabinet ministers
He was later accorded a 21-gun salute before he inspected a guard of honour mounted by the Second Battalion of the Zambia Army.
President Zuma said he was in Zambia to discuss bilateral relations and other issues concerning the two countries with President Banda.
Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Leslie Mbula who was part of the welcoming delegation said President Zuma's visit was long over due and that it would help cement relations between the two countries.
Later in the night, President Zuma attended a state banquet hosted by President Banda at Mulungushi International Conference Centre.
