NCHANGA Constituency member of parliament Wybur Simuusa has accused some MMD officials in Chingola of assisting national registration officers in the issuance of national registration cards (NRCs).

In a telephone interview yesterday, Simuusa said the MMD officials had been going round markets collecting names of people in readiness for the mobile issuance of national registration cards.

"We do not need any political agent in the issuance of national registration cards, people should go straight to the national registration office. I am aware of two prominent officials in Chingola who are going round collecting names of people in readiness for the mobile issuance of national registration cards. This is reliable information," Simuusa claimed.

He said the involvement of MMD cadres in the issuance of national registration cards was a recipe for rigging ahead of the 2011 elections by the MMD government.

Simuusa warned that the PF would not tolerate any attempts by the MMD government to rig the elections, adding that his party would confiscate the paper where names of people who were supposed to get the national registration cards had been listed.

"This is very disturbing. We are not going to tolerate that. That is a recipe for rigging," he said.
And Simuusa expressed concern over the number of retired council workers who had not been paid their benefits by the Chingola Municipal Council since 1999.

He said some retired council workers had even died without getting their benefits from the local authority.

"This country has a lot of resources but our government lacks priority. How can you have a retiree who has not been paid since 1999, this is unacceptable," he said.

Simuusa urged the government to change the attitude towards important national issues and ensure that it set right priorities if the country was to move forward.

"We also have miners who have not being paid their benefits from 1992 when they were retrenched. Presidents upon presidents have been making promises of ensuring that they are paid but up to now, no payments have been made," he said.

Simuusa said the government should change the way it addresses national issues and ensure that lives of many people are improved through good governance.
