GHANAIAN High Commissioner to Zambia Dr William Brandful says there is need for Africa to be economically independent and countries to interact within and across regions. High Commissioner Brandful said on Friday that there was need for countries to interact beyond regions to bring development to countries. He said diplomacy should bring economic development to the people.

High Commissioner Brandful said the commission would on March 08, 2010 in Lusaka launch the 'Ghana shop and skills development centre limited, to sell and promote products of Ghanaian origin.

"If we have a centre, it could serve as some form of investments and promote trade between Zambia and Ghana and exchange skills. At the end of the day, we could have brought economic benefits to our economies," he said.

"There is need for Africa to be economically independent- we should interact with regional groupings but not across regional groupings."

High Commissioner Brandful said his country hopes, in the next few years, to open a centre in Accra where Zambia can run to sell Zambian products.

"I am excited with the potential the centre has joining people of the two countries," he said.

High Commissioner Brandful said Ghana wanted to promote people to people contacts. The embassy also unveiled a programme for the celebration of the Independence Day, which falls next Saturday. First Republican president Dr Kenneth Kaunda is expected to be the guest of honour and is also expected to recollect experiences he may have shared with Dr Kwame Nkrumah in memory of his contribution to African emancipation.

High Commissioner Brandful said the 53rd independence anniversary is dedicated to Nkrumah and to depict the impact of Nkrumah.
