LIVING in a country under the MMD is close to living in hell, UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has charged. Addressing UPND-PF youths at the UPND secretariat after the Youth Day celebrations on Friday where two female cadres from the pact were injured by MMD cadres following a clash at the Freedom Statue, Hichilema said there was nothing to celebrate because the MMD was persecuting Zambians.

“You have been persecuted every time. Living in a country under MMD is close to living in hell,” Hichilema said. “The ruling party is preparing people to attack their own family members.”

Hichilema called on the two parties to remain united and not listen to the propaganda by the MMD about the pact.

“…Chibaba it pains them to see us united. Let us not cheat ourselves, UPND on our own we can’t win, PF on their own you can’t win elections so let us unite so that we can make it in 2011,” he said.

Hichilema said the MMD did not deserve to be in office but they had continued to rule the country because the opposition had not worked together in the past.

He said the MMD was not providing decent governance to the Zambian people because it had failed to look after them.

“MMD should not say they are looking after Zambians because when they say that they make me angry that I may punch one of them in the face,” Hichilema said.

“There is no decent government and they don’t deserve to be in office but they are because we have tolerated them by not working together. A decent government must enable every youth to go to school. Think of 2011, ifike musanga because tifuna kuyenda kusukulu 2011 should come quickly so that you can go to school.”

And Hichilema said there was always a time when every youth would want to marry or get married but were discouraged because there were no jobs to help them sustain their families.

“Mwana wachimuna afuna kukwatila na mwana wachikazi afuna ku kwatiliwa a male child would want to marry and the female child would also want to get married unless there is something wrong, but there are no jobs to help them look after their children when they marry,” he said.

Hichilema said the pact was not seeking office to steal public resources but to serve the Zambians.

Hichilema called on youths to take charge of 2011 by getting national registration cards (NRCs), registering as voters, mobilising other people as well as themselves to vote for the UPND-PF Pact.
