ZAMBIA’S Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Maybin Mubanga has said the signing of the Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi Development Corridor will accelerate trade and economic development among Namibia, Zambia and the DRC.

Speaking in Kinshasa, DRC on Tuesday when that country's minister of transport and communication Laure-Marie Kawanda Kayena signed the agreement to establish the Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi Development Corridor, Ambassador Mubanga said the agreement would facilitate smooth and rapid movement of goods and persons originating from or destined to parties in transit through the territories of other contracting parties and the smooth and rapid movement of goods and persons between their respective territories.

"It is my sincere hope that the signing of this agreement will harmonise rules and regulations along the corridors such as fees changeable by members states, customs facilitation, border posts formalities and axle loads control," said Ambassador Mubanga.

"I also wish to urge the technical committee to meet and start implementing the work plan that you are signing today Tuesday."

Presidents of Zambia, Namibia and DRC in 2007 agreed to establish the Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi Development Corridor.
