Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika on return from Dakar, Senegal made a scathing attack on Western donors saying aid African nations get from them is actually a forced loan they are paying back.

“They are not really coming as donors. The resources that they have there, they took them from here. From Africa. Even from Malawi. They took our coffee. They took our tea. They took our tobacco all those years.

“Now they are giving back that money and they are saying it is aid to us. It is not. They are simply returning a loan that we gave them unwillingly.

“Africa has assisted western countries before and it is wrong for them (western nations) to masquerade as donors instead of giving back what they took away,” said Mutharika.

Mutharika, chairman of the African Union made the remarks at a news conference in the capital Lilongwe on Monday.

What is your take on the President’s remarks, have your say below.
