MANSA Catholic Diocese vicar-general Fr Mambwe Mpasa has observed that the Luapula Province developmental meeting was an abuse of time and chiefs.
Commenting on the Luapula ‘consultative’ meeting organised by opposition Patriotic Front (PF) ‘rebel’ parliamentarians, Fr Mpasa said most people thought more stakeholders would be part of the meeting.
“When we heard that there would be a consultative developmental meeting we thought many more stakeholders will be involved. But it was restricted to chiefs and some stakeholders,” Fr Mpasa said.
“Since we were not invited we didn’t know the content of that meeting. Up to date I don’t even know what development the meeting wants to bring to the province.”
He said even from the resolutions, people did not see much.
“We thought that they would talk about the companies that are closed, the roads and other problems in the province. I thought they will talk about building schools and other things. What we only heard is that such-and-such a person shouldn’t come to our palaces,” Fr Mpasa said.
“If what we have heard is what was going on, then just as well we were not invited. If what we are hearing is what transpired then it’s good we were not invited. It was abuse of time and abuse of the leaders they invited like the traditional leaders. Kuchusha abana bakwa Lesa it’s just a question of troubling God’s children.”
He said meetings should be organised with a clear agenda.
“And such meetings should be restricted to developmental issues, not where you talk about personalities or you become political,” said Fr Mpasa.
Recently, Chiluba opened what was termed a developmental meeting in Luapula Province organised by Chembe MMD parliamentarian Mwansa Mbulakulima and all PF rebel parliamentarians in the province.
But the meeting later proved to be a campaign tool for President Rupiah Banda.
