MMD provincial chairman William Banda has vowed to fight The Post, the opposition and others he accused of insulting President Rupiah Banda until he defeats them.
During the lunch of his party’s 30-24 cooperation master plan whose theme is ‘I will build my house MMD on the rock’ at Lusaka’s 20th Century Cinema Hall in, Banda alleged that everyday, The Post was either insulting President Banda or his ministers who included Mike Mulongoti, Lieutenant General Ronnie Shikapwasha, Dora Siliya, Felix Mutati, Vice-President George Kunda and embattled Inspector General of police Francis Kabonde.
“You will see what will happen to you. We are tired and if you want to become a politician, form a party and start attacking as a president of the party and not do this through the media,” Banda said. “I will fight until I defeat them.”
He said MMD was tired of being insulted.
“We have stayed away from all those people, we have kept quiet for a long time but now the hour has come,” Banda said.
He said whoever was insulting President Banda, became an enemy of the party.
“Let us stand up and fight, it’s not us who start the fight, they start it and we should fight back,” Banda said.
Banda also accused PF leader Micheal Sata, UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and The Post of fighting for power.
“Who told you that we are going to surrender power on a silver plate? He asked. “I want to say that President Banda is in State House, he is a government leader and President of the whole nation.”
He questioned how many party cadres from the opposition were involved in various scandals and The Post had not written about.
Banda said MMD was now stronger than it was previously and accused The Post and the opposition of trying to weaken it by reporting and talking negatively about it.
Banda said Hakainde should stop talking about Zamtel and instead tell the nation where he got his house. “Did he build it? NO! If he bought it, where did he get the money?”
He also said Hakainde should also tell the nation how Lima Bank got finished.
Banda said power belonged to the MMD adding that everything, including the markets, belonged to them.
He said his party would not allow Chilanga member of Parliament, Ng’andu Magande, to get close to President Banda describing him as akasoso rubbish.
He said Magande and former defence minister George Mpombo, were members of parliament because of the support they received from MMD members.
“If you look at Mpombo can he become president? Magande is always saying I was supposed to be president. Is he normal? As the crowed shouted alipena he is mad,” Banda charged.
He further challenged Mpombo to resign and join PF or UPND adding that Magande should stop talking about President Banda and the MMD because he was UPND.
He said they MMD decided to hold the meeting in town to test themselves of their presence in the centre of Lusaka.
And confusion reigned on Lusaka’s Chachacha Road when MMD cadres blocked motorists from using the road as they waited to be addressed by their party provincial chairperson William Banda.
Shop owners talked to expressed displeasure at the behaviour of he MMD and requested the top leadership to advise their cadres not to hold any more meetings in town because their presence had caused confusion and disruption of business.
