President Bingu wa Mutharika has received an invitation by President Barack Obama to visit United States of America in August to attend Africa independence celebration.
“The President will host an event this summer in Washington in early August to mark the 50th anniversary of independence of these former colonies,” an official is quoted in the international media, noting that 18 countries including Malawi were invited.
Obama, whose father was Kenyan, will host a 50th anniversary celebration of 18 African nations’ independence in Washington.
The invitation was announced on the sidelines of the G8 in Huntsville, Canada. Obama extended the invitation to several African countries including Malawi, Senegal, Algeria, Ethiopia and Nigeria.
President Mutharika who is in Canada attending the G20 summit is also chairman of Africa Union.
