PATRIOTIC Front (PF) leader Michael Sata yesterday said it’s clear that Dr Kenneth Kaunda is harbouring a lot of things in his chest against President Rupiah Banda’s rule and his relationship with Frederick Chiluba.

Commenting on Dr Kaunda’s conversation with Post editor-in-chief Fred M’membe soon after the latter’s release from prison on Monday, Sata described the discussion between Dr Kaunda and M’membe as interesting.

“Kenneth Kaunda is very honest. Even when he was talking, he was not talking because he wanted to backbite Chiluba, no! After all Rupiah is his brother-in-law. When Kaunda met Fred he was remembering his detention at Kamwala Remand Prison and Mukobeko Maximum Prison at the hands of Chiluba,” Sata said.

“So whatever Kaunda said he said them honestly and without despising anyone. In fact, Rupiah is a lucky person because when we genuinely advise him, it’s not that we hate him or have a grudge against him, no. So let him carefully listen to his own brother-in-law’s message.

“From that conversation, you can clearly see that Kaunda is keeping a lot of things in his chest against Rupiah’s rule and his friendship with Chiluba. Kaunda seems to have buried a lot of things in his chest. It’s clear that he has not approved Rupiah’s relationship with Chiluba. But Chiluba has pride, he just can’t say ‘old man I am sorry’.”

Sata said the best Chiluba could do was to apologise to Dr Kaunda over what he put him through during his 10-year rule.

“Actually, Kaunda’s conversation with Fred makes Chiluba a very big liar because of late Chiluba has been jumping around Kaunda whenever the two of them meet, projecting himself as being close to Kaunda. But we can all see that there are still some unresolved issues,” Sata said. “If Chiluba was wise, after Rupiah brought them together, Chiluba should have taken advantage of Rupiah’s initiative for him to apologise to the old man in public or privately. But I know Chiluba has never acknowledged Kaunda both inside and outside Cabinet. Chiluba has no remorse on anything. He destroyed the economy of this country and remains unapologetic.”

Sata said Dr Kaunda identified himself with M’membe’s situation.

“What was coming out of Kaunda’s mouth where direct words from his heart. Kaunda saw himself in Fred because he went through the same under Chiluba so he was genuine in his sympathies with Fred,” Sata said. “I am sure Kaunda remembered when he was locked up in Mukobeko Maximum Prison and it had to take that gallant son of Africa, the late Julius Nyerere to come to his rescue.”

Sata also reminded Chiluba over the engagement of Scotland Yard to investigate Dr Kaunda of corruption.

“You recently heard Chiluba complaining about the Task Force and dismissing it and its operations. But you remind him that without reference to Cabinet he Chiluba invited Scotland Yard to investigate Kaunda. Without consulting Cabinet, he declared a state of emergency and without consulting Cabinet he arrested Kaunda on Christmas day. So why has Chiluba been making noise about the Task Force a body, which was established by the Zambian government?” Sata asked. “And yet him, he brought in Scotland Yard a foreign entity to come and investigate Kaunda. Is Chiluba telling us that it’s only good and legal for him to bring in Scotland Yard on others and when the Task Force investigates him he starts crying? Tell him that his arguments on the Task Force do not make sense because he unleashed Scotland Yard on Kaunda.”

He said Chiluba and President Banda came to dismantle Zambia.

“Chiluba is a not an original MMD. The original MMD was Arthur Wina and not Chiluba. And Wina had a programme for Zambia, not Chiluba whose preoccupation was just to buy suits, buy high-heeled shoes to make him look tall and also buying television sets for his girl friends,” Sata said. “The Zambian people must wake up. If the Zambian people don’t wake up now, by the time Rupiah goes, there will be no Zambia left.”
