ZIMBABWE'S outgoing ambassador to Angola bid his farewell to that country's vice president, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos on Tuesday in Luanda and asked for that country to support the lifting of illegal sanctions against the country.
Mr James Manzou was speaking to the press at the end of an audience granted to him by Angolan vice president. He is taking up a new ambassadorial position at the United Nations in Geneva. He said the sanctions have been damaging for Zimbabwe’s economic and social development.
The diplomat said there has been some progress in the functioning of the inclusive Government and in the framework of the creation of the new constitution.
He added that although the economy is growing, it is import for the developed countries to lift sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe as there is no reason for sanctions.
He said he is expecting to count on Angola’s help to fight against the western imposed sanctions.
Mr Manzou said while the economy of Angola was on the rise, there was no large volume of trade between the two countries, due to the international economic crisis and the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.
