The National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) has disbursed over K380 billion in the second quarter of this year for various projects and related activities.
According to the disbursement schedule released to Post Online NRFA public relations manager Alphoncious Hamachila said the amount spent represents proceeds accumulating from fuel levies, international transit fees, road tax and weigh bridge fines.
“..the rest of the amount of K15 billion was disbursed under projects being funded by the World Bank while disbursements for Danida funded projects amounted to over K6.5 billion, “ he said.
Hamachili cited the rehabilitation of the Zimba-Livingstone road, upgrading of the 82 kilometer section of the Choma-Chitongo road in Southern Province as some of the major disbursements from the road fund that gobbled about K40 billion alone.
“Others are K34 billion for upgrading of the Chipata-Mfuwe road in Eastern Province and K28 billion for the periodic maintenance of the Serenje via Mukuku Bridge to Samfya including sections of Samfya to Mansa roads in Luapula Province,” Hamachila disclosed.
“NRFA has also disbursed K21 billion for the upgrading of Kasama-Luwingu road while K18 billion was disbursed for periodic maintenance of the Kasama-Mbala-Mpulungu road in Northern Province. NRFA disbursed K21 billion for the upgrading (tarring) of the Kasama-Luwingu road while K18 billion was disbursed for the periodic maintenance of the Kasama-Mbala-Mpulungu road in the Northern Province,” he said.
Hamachila further explained that a total of K17 billion was released for the upgrading of Luansobe-Mpongwe road on the Copperbelt Province, K15 billion was disbursed for the design, supervision and reconstruction of Twin Palm, Ibex Hill-Kabulonga, Avondale-Kabulonga in Lusaka Province while K11 billion kwacha went Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) to cater for its various activities across the country.
He also disclosed that K13billion and K7billion were disbursed for routine maintenance of the Chipata-Lundazi and Nansanga farm block roads in Chipata respectively.
“The periodic maintenance of main and district roads from Chitoshi to Zacharia in the Northern Province got K7 billion, while another K7 billion was disbursed for the design and construction of 2.4 km of Chifwema Road and 50km of internal roads at the Multi-facility Economic Zone (MFEZ) in Lusaka,” he said.
Hamachila said that disbursements made by the Agency for the World Bank funded projects include K3 billion which went to reconstruction of selected priority river crossings in four national parks.
“As for DANIDA funded projects, the NRFA disbursed about K1 billion for the rehabilitation of the Mongu–Senanga road, among others,” he said.
Hamachila said the fund will continue working with and through key players in ensuring a quality road network throughout the country that will provide adequate financial resources for developing ,monitoring and evaluation of road infrastructure and road transport services.
