SUSAN Kawandami of the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) is the new member of parliament for Ndola’s Chifubu constituency. Kawandami was declared winner at 00:45 hours this morning after she got more than 60 per cent of the total votes counted.
Returning officer Roy Kuseka announced that Kawandami got 6, 976 while her closest rival MMD’s Frank Ng’ambi trailed with 4, 539 votes. ADD’s Brian Banda got 412 and UNIP only managed 221.
PF supporters who braved the cold to witness the counting of ballot papers seemed to have a foresight of the result that lay ahead as they mobbed their new member of parliament.
