MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, says he will not participate in the next presidential election if the "outstanding issues" in the Global Political Agreement are not resolved.

He was speaking at a rally, which coincided with the burial of President Mugabe's sister, Sabina.

“We will not participate in any election if these issues are not resolved. There are a number of issues that we agreed on, which are not being followed such as the issue of appointment of Governors, the appointment of Reserve Bank Governor, Dr Gideon Gono, and the Attorney General Mr Johannes Tomana,” said Mr Tsvangirai.

“These are the issues which we have sent to the facilitator, Mr Jacob Zuma, Sadc and AU to look into.”

He said a meeting has been pencilled for next week to see that the issues surrounding the GPA were ironed out.

“President Zuma will be coming to the country soon to make sure that the impasse is resolved. These issues should be solved before we talk about an election.

"There should also be a national healing process so that we don’t have a repeat of violence which characterised the 2008 harmonised elections.

"We also want to make sure that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is truly independent and after that we could then talk of an election,” said mr Tsvangirai.

This is not the first time Mr Tsvangirai has threatened to boycott an election.

He boycotted the last presidential election saying the conditions were not conducive. The election was later won resoundingly by President Mugabe who is now Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

Meanwhile, Zanu-PF officials criticised Mr Tsvangirai and his MDC-T party for holding a rally on the day that Sabina Mugabe was being buried.

"His insensitivity is astounding. He cannot, on one hand, issue a statement saying Cde Sabina was a heroine, and then boycott her funeral," said one official.

"Snubbing such an important occassion just shows the immaturity that characterises this party."
