Sata replaces GBM with Simbyakula

PF leader Michael Sata has appointed prominent legal expert and former Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE) director Dr Ngosa Simbyakula as acting party chairman for elections. Dr Simbyakula replaces Kasama Central member of parliament Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba popularly known as GBM, who was suspended last week for assaulting his wife, Chama.

In a letter to Dr Simbyakula dated September 9, 2010, which was also copied to PF secretary general Wynter Kabimba and Mwamba, Sata notified Dr Simbyakula of his new portfolio.

“I am pleased to inform you that I have decided to appoint you as acting chairman of the election committee of the Central Committee,” read Sata’s letter.

“Please liaise with the secretary general who shall brief you on any outstanding election programmes which will require your immediate attention.”

Dr Simbyakula is an advocate of the High Court and Supreme Court of Zambia. He was admitted to the Bar in 1981 and has been practicing law since then.

He is also a qualified arbitrator.

Dr. Simbyakula has been lecturing at the University of Zambia (UNZA), School of Law since 1990.

He served as Dean of the School of Law from 1993 to 1998.

Dr. Simbyakula previously served as permanent secretary for the Copperbelt Province, permanent secretary Ministry of Justice and permanent secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dr Simbyakula was director at ZIALE from March 2006 to December 2009 and he also served as vice-chairperson of the Revenue Appeals Tribunal since April 2004 till this year.

Meanwhile, the Southern Province PF youth league conference, which convened in Choma over the weekend, has resolved to mobilise and campaign for the party in the province.

PF Southern Province youth chairman Brave Mweetwa said the youths resolved to support PF leader Michael Sata as a presidential candidate in 2011 general elections.

“The youths resolved as follows: To condemn the culture of political violence and called for a clean and non-violent campaign and that all parties should publicly denounce violence as the PF has done, the youths also called for exemplary behaviour and good conduct among all the leaders of the party for the youth to emulate,” Mweetwa said.

“The youths also declared that Zambia will be a corrupt free nation under PF after the 2011 general elections, the youths called for an independent judiciary free from MMD interference and direction, the youths resolved that the provincial youth committee should spearhead the mobilization and recruitment of all the youths in the province.

“The youths called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to extend the voter registration period as many people in the province are not aware due to lack of publicity and the youths have also called upon the party to provide a motor vehicle in the province for youth party mobilization.”
