An MDC-T official in Zaka District has defected to Zanu-PF and immediately attacked his former party describing its policy as inconsistent. Speaking after publicly ditching MDC-T recently, Mr Partson Zvirevo (52), who was the party’s district organising secretary for Zaka and having been in the party for 11 years, said he was rejoining Zanu-PF.
He told a Zanu-PF Provincial Co-ordinating Committee meeting here at the weekend that he had dumped MDC-T and was now willing to work for Zanu-PF to reclaim lost ground in the district.
"I have decided to come back home (Zanu-PF) this is where my umbilical cord is and I am working tirelessly so that Zanu PF regains the ground it lost to my former party (MDC-T) during the 2008 harmonised polls.
"The reason why I am coming back home is that there is policy inconsistency in the MDC-T and the party does not have a clear ideology.
"There seems to be an outside hand in everything that the party does and I cannot be part of such a grouping," Mr Zvirevo said.
He said it was clear that MDC-T was being used as a puppet by outside forces bent on reversing the gains of Zimbabwe’s hard-won independence.
Mr Zvirevo said there was need for Zimbabweans to be on the lookout for new forms of aggression by former colonisers bent on installing a puppet regime in the country.
Zanu PF District Co-ordinating Committee chairman for Zaka, Cde Tawedzerwa Masase, commended Mr Zvirevo for his decision.
Zanu-PF only managed to win one constituency out of the four in Zaka in the 2008 harmonised polls while MDC-T won the other three.
Provincial War Veterans chairman for Masvingo Retired Colonel Jefta Rupuvu, said Mr Zvirevo’s actions came in the wake of the launch by war veterans of an operation "Kubudirana Pachena", which he said was being carried out in Zaka.
He said the operation was aimed at teaching villagers the importance of guarding jealously the gains of the liberation struggle.
