London hosts Investing in African Mining Seminar | Africa-focused mining event, Europe, Economic Empowerment and Indigenisation Act, MineAfrica, mining in Zimbabwe, mining industry. THE largest Africa-focused mining event in Europe for the international mining and financial communities is taking place on November 29, 2010, in London.
Now in its fourth year, the seminar offers mining companies, service providers and African governments an opportunity to promote themselves to a high-profile Africa-focused audience.
For Zimbabwe, this is an important event as it takes place on the backdrop of crucial developments in the mining and mining-related sector.
Zimbabwe has just passed into law the Economic Empowerment and Indigenisation Act which stipulates that indigenous Zimbabweans should own a 51% stake in companies operating in the country with a turnover of US$500,000 or over.
The country has also become a global player in the diamond industry and is expected to be the biggest diamond producer in the next few years.
The seminar is supported by the UK Association of Mining Analysts (AMA) who comprise a significant portion of the audience.
The full-day seminar features 14 presenters, a senior level financial and mining audience of 135 participants, two networking coffee and a networking lunch break.
Zimbabwe-focussed gold mining company, New Dawn's President and CEO Ian Saunders last year gave a brilliant presentation on the state of the gold mining industry and the investment climate in Zimbabwe.
The 2010 keynote speaker is Greg Hawkins, Chief Executive Officer, African Barrick Gold. Other speakers come from Eritrea, Ghana, Namibia, Kenya, Canada, United Kingdom and from a wide range of companies related to the mining sector.
The seminar takes place at the five-star Andaz Hotel in central London -- the day before the start of Mines and Money London 2010 Conference.
