The First Lady, Amai Grace Mugabe, has urged those who voted against Zanu-PF in previous elections to return to the party, saying they were being fooled by the MDC.

The First Lady was speaking when she officially handed over Dora Clinic in Mutare District after Zanu-PF renovated it as part of its programme for the 11th Annual National People’s Conference held last week in Mutare.

"You now know that what you were promised by the MDC did not happen," said Amai Mugabe.

"For next year’s elections, we must be clever and not be fooled. People lied during the elections and they did not come back to fulfil what they promised you."

Amai Mugabe said those who voted against Zanu-PF should be persuaded in a polite way to return to the fold.

She said women should be at the forefront of the campaign for Zanu-PF to regain parliamentary seats it lost to the MDC-T.

The First Lady said people should understand that President Mugabe stood for the people’s welfare.

"I know him because he is my husband," she said. "He has nothing for himself, but he keeps on working for the people."

Amai Mugabe said MDC-T had been handed ministries through the inclusive Government which it had accused Zanu-PF of failing to run.

But structures in the ministries, she said, were now worse off.

Amai Mugabe urged people to promote peace in their communities in line with Zanu-PF’s ideology.

She said people in Manicaland should be more conscious of the liberation struggle because many fighters hailed from the province because of its proximity to Mozambique that was used as a base.

She said proceeds from companies that mine diamonds in Manicaland should be channelled towards improving infrastructure in schools and hospitals.

"We want people to live in peace and unity which should set the correct path for our development," said Amai Mugabe.

She said parents should teach their children the effects of HIV and Aids and encourage them not to engage in activities that put them into temptation.

The renovation of Dora Clinic, Amai Mugabe said, was important in that it would improve service delivery in the local health system. She rebuked those who have a penchant for stealing property from such institutions as clinics.

Dora Clinic, that was built in 1992, serves more than 12 000 people and is made up of four beds in the male ward, four in the female ward, five in the post-natal ward and three others in the labour ward.

The handing over of the clinic was witnessed by Manicaland provincial governor Cde Christopher Mushohwe, Senate President and Zanu-PF Politburo member Cde Edna Madzongwe, Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial chairman, Cde Mike Madiro and Zanu-PF Politburo member Cde David Parirenyatwa as well as other Politburo and Central Committee members.
