ENOCK Kavindele should be reminded that Central Province will not sit idle and let both the party and Republican vice-presidency go easily, says Moses Muteteka. Local government deputy minister Muteteka’s statement comes in the wake of former Republican vice-president Kavindele’s remarks that he would give Vice-President George Kunda and others a good run for the MMD vice-presidency.

Muteteka said Kavindele should not underrate Vice-President Kunda because he had matured as a politician. He said Vice-President Kunda had been working well and communicating with the entire nation.

Muteteka said whatever popularity Kavindele claimed to have, Vice-President Kunda had it too. He said if Kavindele depended on the old MMD members, Vice-President Kunda depended on the current ones.

Muteteka said he recognised Kavindeles’s past experience but he should respect Kunda as the country’s Vice-President.

“And for me who comes from Central Province, we are grateful that we have the number two chair as Vice-President coming from Central Province. And he Kavindele must not think that Central Province will sit idle to allow this to just go, you understand? Central Province will not allow the Vice-Presidency to go that easily,” Muteteka said.

“Both the Republican and party vice-presidency have to be defended by Central Province. It is an honour to us. We cannot do away with that honour.”

Kavindele said the Republican Vice-President’s incumbency would not guarantee Kunda the party’s second-highest position.

And Muteteka disclosed that he would contest for the elections at the MMD national convention because he was interested in one of the positions in the party’s national executive committee (NEC).

However, Muteteka refused to mention the position he would contest for although MMD insiders disclosed that he was interested in the national youth chairmanship.

“We have places which have not performed, and the feeling I have is this time around let’s get the right people at the right time, in the right places,” said Muteteka.

The MMD is expected to hold its national convention next year.
