Alliance for Development and Democracy (ADD) president Charles Milupi has been clobbered by a group of people during a rally in Western Province. According to Radio Phoenix, Mr. Milupi was beaten yesterday when he sang the Zambian National Anthem during the rally.

Sources told radio Phoenix that the people who beat Mr. Milupi are believed to have been from a group calling for the restoration of the “1964 Barotse agreement”.

Phoenix reports that the members of the Barotse movement posed as ADD members attending the rally and that when it was time to sing the National Anthem, the mercenaries disrupted the rally and immediately started beating Mr. Milupi.

When contacted for a comment this afternoon, Mr. Milupi told Radio Phoenix that he was having lunch and could not give an interview.

Western Province police commander Peacewell Mweemba said he had not yet received a report and said the situation was generally calm in the province.

A group of people from Barotseland are calling for the secession of their territory from the republic of Zambia in order to form a “Constitutional Monarchy” under the leadership of the Lozi King.

The Litunga has however distanced himself from the group calling for the restoration of the 1964 Barotse agreement.
