RUPIAH Banda and George Kunda will not succeed in their continued attempts to deceive Zambians because they are now alert, says PF leader Michael Sata.

In an interview, Sata said President Banda and Vice-President Kunda would do anything to protect former president Frederick Chiluba because they owed their political recognition to him.

Sata said President Banda and Vice-President George Kunda knew that they would not have been on the political scene if Chiluba’s third term bid succeeded and they would do anything to protect the former head of state, including shielding his corruption acts.

“Rupiah Banda and George Kunda are beneficiaries of Chiluba’s third term attempts. The two of them feel they should be grateful to Frederick Chiluba and that’s why they will do anything nasty to protect him Chiluba,” Sata said yesterday.

Sata said President Banda and Vice-President Kunda were surviving on hallucinations and lies in their political career.

During the MMD provincial conference in Kasama, President Banda told delegates that Sata had misled Chiluba to go for a third term of office in 2001 on the pretext that when people rise against the incumbent, he could take over.

President Banda said Sata was shocked that Chiluba decided to handpick late president Levy Mwanawasa to take over from him.

President Banda also said since he took over office in 2008, he had delivered on his development promises and was building five high schools and other infrastructure in Northern Province.

But Sata said it was immoral for President Banda to go round the country claiming development that he had not delivered.

He said President Banda was surviving on lies and creating a parallel structure within the MMD to forward his personal and selfish agenda.

“He is manipulating the party and surviving on lies,” said Sata. “In the Northern Province, he lied to the people that he is building five high schools, let him tell the people in which districts he is building these schools. He hasn’t taken any development to that province, which is the second least developed after Western Province.”
