FORMER MDC MP for Highfield, Munyaradzi Gwisai, and 45 co-accused who were arrested in connection with plotting to oust a constitutionally-elected Government, are still in custody, while police carry out investigations.
Gwisai, the general co-ordinator of the International Socialist Organisation, and his alleged accomplices were arrested over the weekend in Harare.
Police recovered a video projector, two DVD discs and a laptop, which Gwisai allegedly used to show how Zimbabweans could imitate the recent chaos in Egypt and Tunisia.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau yesterday said, "We are still carrying out investigations into the matter and we expect that they will appear in court soon."
Allegations against Gwisai and his accomplices arose when police received information that MDC-T and its affiliates wanted to hold meetings to organise illegal street protests.
Insp Sabau said on Saturday Gwisai invited ISO, Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions, Zimbabwe National Students Association and the Medical Professions Allied Workers Union members to a meeting in Harare.
The theme of the meeting, Insp Sabau said, was: "ISO calls on workers, students and working people to support the struggle in solidarity with Egyptian and Tunisian workers".
The illegal meeting's agenda, Insp Sabau said, was "Revolt in Egypt and Tunisia. What lessons can be learnt by Zimbabwe and Africa?"
A video on the Egypt revolt was shown as a way of motivating them to subvert a constitutionally elected Government, police said.
