The Lusaka City Council has asked the MMD to stop interfering in the local authority’s operations.

LCC public relations manager Chanda Makanta has complained that the ruling MMD is heavily intruding in the operations of the Lusaka Intercity Bus Terminus, which is under the council's control.

She advised the MMD leadership to restrain their cadres from carrying out party activities in the InterCity Bus Terminus.

Makanta said it was unfair for the MMD, led by Lusaka Province chairman William Banda, to harass bus operators and station users by forcing them to wear MMD party regalia.

“As far as we are concerned, the InterCity Bus Terminus belongs to the Lusaka City Council and not MMD or PF. What MMD is doing is illegal. This station is not for William Banda or any individual,” Makanta said.

She said it was sad that the MMD, which was a ruling party, could not arrest the situation on the ground even after several complaints from the local authority.

“From the look of things, it seems this has been allowed by the MMD government but we would like to ask the MMD authority; in fact, we are pleading with the MMD authorities to restrain cadres. It makes us really sad because we are the ones that are getting injured,” Makanta said.

And Makanta said LCC was investigating complaints of William Banda allegedly collecting station levies from station managers. She said the council management had not yet forwarded any complaints relating to illegal collection of station levies by William Banda.
