NDOLA’s Itawa ward councillor Menyani Zulu says it is worrying for senior government officials to exhibit high levels of ignorance on the operations of councils. Zulu was reacting to continuous attacks on PF dominated councils on the Copperbelt by President Rupiah Banda and senior government officials.

“First of all let them be sincere Mbulakulima is a minister in the province that has a poorest road network in the country and he knows that his government has given the responsibility of maintaining roads to the RDA and not the councils, but his government has deliberately chosen to fool the people that PF-controlled councils are not maintaining roads,” he said.

Zulu said the PF councillors got into councils when the local authorities owed staff huge salary arrears that have since been dismantled.

“Things are moving smoothly because workers are not owed millions like was the case when MMD dominated these councils, let Mbulakulima tell the nation why there is no road from Ndola to Mufulira because the Ndola-Mufulira road is a mess and the Sabina-Mufulira road is something else and he is there cheapening himself and his government on issues that themselves least understand. Luckily, the people of Zambia especially in most urban areas are learned and laugh at such crap,” said Zulu.

“In the case of Ndola City Council, we have improved the operations of the council by employing qualified staff…we have bought vehicles for all directors who previously used to walk and the graders that they claim to be using to grade some township roads were bought by us, what is he talking about, let him and his central government tell the people how much they have misappropriated in the last 20 years which was meant for roads in the nation than talking about things that never exist in councils.”
