I AM trying hard to see how best we can resolve political differences in MMD, says Lameck Mangani.

Featuring on Breeze FM’s Political Hour programme on Monday, Mangani who is Chipata Central MMD parliamentarian and works and supply deputy minister, said there had been a lot of speculation about him in the party.

“These speculations are there because of the political differences that we have had in the party. Immediately you have political differences, it’s like in a home when there are squabbles there will be a lot of speculations. This one will say this, this one will say this because of simple political differences and this is the issue that I am working hard to see how best we reconcile or resolve,” Mangani said.
He said he did not know where he was going wrong.

“This (political difference) has been a big, big problem, I don’t know.

I was (Eastern) provincial chairman for the party, I was provincial minister here, I was Minister of Home Affairs but if you ask me what I have gone through, I have gone through a lot. Where am I going wrong?

Is it just a problem with me or what is the issue? And so these are the issues that I keep asking myself,” Mangani said.

He said prior to the MMD provincial conference, there was speculation that he went to Petauke to campaign for the PF.

“When there was a local government by-election in Chiparamba ward, there was a rumour that I was there, I was giving out mealie-meal, money. But I wasn’t there. Of late they are saying my wife was in Kasenengwa (campaigning for PF). Out of all places how can my wife go to that chief meanwhile my chief in Chipata Central is chief Chinyaku or Kapatamoyo? If they had mentioned these it would have made sense.

These things have been there but I have said these are political issues and they want to see how best they can pull somebody down,” Mangani said.

He also discussed a number of developmental projects that had been implemented in his constituency.

Mangani said the biggest challenge on the Chipata/Mchinji railway line was to see how it was going to be utilised by the people.

On speculation that President Rupiah Banda’s son, Andrew, was eyeing Chipata Central, Mangani said the constituency was not personal to holder.

“I have heard those rumours that the President’s son is interested in contesting Chipata Central, like any other player…Chipata Central is not a personal to holder. We followed the democratic process, anybody can stand, we cannot stop them. But it is up to the people of Chipata,” Mangani said.

He said all those who wanted to stand in Chipata Central were welcome.
