A FORMER UPND official says he is confident that the numbers of people who turned up for Michael Sata’s rallies in Western Province are a prediction of this year’s election results.

Teddy Chimbinde, a former provincial publicity secretary, said those who doubted the PF’s popularity in Western Province had seen the real scenario in the area.

“The provincial team that lay ground for successful rallies would like to say thank you very much to the people of Barotseland, Senanga and Mongu and other places for the wonderful reception accorded to president Sata and his entourage,” Chimbinde said in interview yesterday.

“And that will definitely be the reflection as we go to vote in the election. We’re going flat out to other parts of the province, Mumbwa and surrounding areas. It’s not only Mongu and Senanga.” He urged people not to be cheated by fake promises from the MMD as the country headed towards the elections.

“The people of Western Province have to take the message from president Sata seriously. If the people had been doubting him he was here, he has explained for himself,” Chimbinde said.

“People of Western Province, especially women, must keep their voters cards close to their chests. Don’t fall for cheap loans but if they bring money, get the money but don’t kubeba don’t tell you’re PF.” He said he had been vindicated for saying that people in Western Province were in support of Sata.

“When we said Western Province is for Sata we were called names. Our colleagues in the UPND said that we were bribed but surely such multitudes that turned up for the rallies, where can you get the money to pay all those people?” he said.

Chimbinde said people in Western Province were now geared to campaign for the PF in various parts of the province with a view to gaining maximum votes in the forthcoming elections.
