THE MMD in Mongu last week distributed fliers threatening to kill people who planned to attend Michael Sata’s rally yesterday. Patriotic Front (PF) provincial publicity secretary Maurice Litula said the neighbourhood watch saw MMD members led by their chairlady distributing fliers alleging that if PF formed government, it would legalise homosexuality.

“MMD provincial chairlady Mrs Mupo, was the one distributing fliers and we reported her to the police where she was interrogated by the DCIO Mr Masumba. They are telling people that Sata is a traitor and hates the people of Western Province,” Litula said.

One of the fliers read: “Attention PF cadres; by inviting Sata to come here you are declaring war. If you love him tell him not to come, without settling the Barotseland Agreement of 1964 no one will hold rallies and consequently no election will take place.”

“Don’t say you were not warned by the Linyungandambo. If you think we’re lying, ask Milupi. We are tired of politicians. Saturday, May 21st will be a dangerous day because the Linyungandambo will blow off Sata’s head and kill all his supporters. Sata is a traitor and a snake that will bite to death,” read another flier.

Litula said the MMD was warning people that if they attended Sata’s rally, they will be dealt with thereafter.

He said the MMD were threatening people in the name of suspected Barotse activists who disrupted Charles Milupi’s rally in Mongu early this year.

Litula said MMD was panicking and scared of Sata’s popularity that’s why they resorted to intimidating people.

He said the province had resolved to support Sata so that they could remove the MMD from government.

Litula said the MMD had organised a party at the community hall inviting everyone to attend at the time Sata’s rally was to take place.

“The police have assured us of peace, law and order and our rally is going ahead. They told us that MMD was not given a permit to hold a party. Sata is sending shivers in MMD,’’ said Litula.
