SUPPORT for Mic-hael Sata in Western Province is real, says Siyoto Kunyanda.
In a walk-in interview, Kunyanda who served in the Chiluba administration as works and supply, home affairs and Western Province deputy minister said all those doubting the crowds that Sata pulled at his Mongu and Senanga rallies would be shocked when election results go his way in this year’s general election.

Kunyanda said the people of Western Province had done away with the MMD government because it had maimed and killed them.

“The people of Western Province will never come back to MMD because Rupiah Banda has been taking them for a ride. When you examine his leadership, Rupiah Banda has never agreed with the people of Zambia on several issues,” Kunyanda said.

“For example, he has acted against the will of the people on the windfall tax on the mines, the sale of Zamtel through RP Capital Partners of Cayman Islands, and the mobile hospitals which he procured against public will. People did not want mobile hospitals but he went ahead and implemented them at great cost.”
Kunyanda said all those who dispelled the Patriotic Front (PF) leader’s popularity in the province were shying away from reality.

“I have heard some eminent people argue that those crowds Sata pulled are not real. They are saying that the people of Mongu and Senanga just went to be entertained by Mr Sata. No! Those crowds are real because I attended both rallies and I saw reality there. Mr Sikota Wina is out of touch with reality on the aspirations of the people of Western Province,” he said.

“As for Luena member of parliament Charles Milupi’s ADD Alliance for Democracy and Development, it is not going anywhere. He is not a factor because in areas like Nalikwanda and Namushakende, officials from his party have defected to the PF, they would rather go with PF,” he said.”

He said people were aware that because Sata is a man of action, he would implement the Barotseland Agreement of 1964 and apply the same principle to other provinces.
Kunyanda said Sata had the ability to develop the country, unlike President Banda.

“Rupiah Banda is boasting about development, but even these small developments, is he using his own money? It is money for the people of Zambia; and if you give the same money to Michael Sata, he will do a lot of things for the people because he is a man of action. As Western Province we are determined to see that MMD is voted out,” said Kunyanda.

“Sata’s promise to address the Barotseland issue is timely. I know he will take the same principle to other provinces because people want control of their resources for development. My appeal to the people of Western Province is that they should keep on agitating for change because MMD has failed to bring about meaningful change in the province.”
