CHINESE Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao says investors from his country will continue investing in Zambia regardless of the political party that wins this year's elections. In an interview, Ambass-ador Zhou said whichever party comes into power after the elections will be regarded as a friend of China.

“Our relation with Zambia is not with an individual or a political party. We establish relations with other countries on the basis of sovereignty, it’s not a personal relation or party relation and whoever is going to be in power, we will continue to make investment here because we believe investment is useful and needed in African countries,” he said.

Ambassador Zhou said his country was still willing to develop good relations with Zambia, saying Chinese investment in the country was not yet big.

“We believe that our investment is not big yet because our capacity is limited and we look at African countries who want relations with China as friends and we are willing to develop good relations with Zambia not any individual or political party, that is our principle,” he said.

He hoped that this year's elections would be held in a peaceful and orderly manner because Zambia has always been known for that.

Ambassador Zhou said if the environment was bad no investor would come in the country and encouraged Chinese companies to invest.

“I hope that the Zambians will have peaceful and orderly elections because Zambia has been enjoying peace for some time now and I think the people are matured enough to conduct the elections in a peaceful manner,” said Ambassador Zhou.
