MICHAEL Sata yesterday urged PF members and supporters countrywide to report all foreign nationals and non-Zambians whose names appear in the provisional voters register. And Sata (left) has encouraged Zambians to turn out en masse and verify their details during the inspection of the provisional voters register.

Commenting on the 2011 inspection of the provisional voters register, which was launched by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) yesterday, Sata said it was important for people to ensure that they check their particulars.

“I want to appeal to all Zambians, especially PF members and supporters to make sure that they turn out in large numbers and verify their details now that the inspection of the provisional voters register has been launched,” Sata said.

“My word of advice to them particularly to those who live along the borders regions is that they should be alert and report all foreign nationals or non-Zambians whose names are appearing in the register. This is the only way we will get rid of this criminal regime.”

And according to a circular dated May 27, 2011, which was issued to all party structures, PF secretary general Wynter Kabimba advised the leadership to mobilise people for the exercise.

“Re: Inspection of the register of voters. This is to inform you that the Electoral Commission of Zambia has set the period 30th May 2011 to 12th June 2011 for the inspection of the register of voters. You are, therefore, advised to mobilise all PF members for this exercise,” Kabimba stated.

“During the period of inspection of the register, PF leaders and members should: notify the registration officer about the name(s) of any person or people they know who are dead but had registered to vote, notify the registration officer if your name has been omitted or mispelt in the register.

“PF leaders and members should notify the registration officers and object to the registration of any person who is a foreign national, non-Zambian or refugee whose name appears in the register.

PF officials or members in polling centres along the border areas must inform the party secretariat immediately about such cases. PF leaders and members should take with them for inspection their National Registration Card and voter’s cards.”
