PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda has asked for forgiveness from people over the language he has used at times. And Paramount Chief Mpezeni has maintained his statement that he would welcome any politician to Eastern Province.

Meanwhile, Enoch Kavindele attacked Patriotic Front Chipata Central parliamentary candidate Lameck Mangani by calling him a Judas Iscariot. Addressing a provincial rally at Chipata Golf Club grounds on Saturday, President Banda who constantly referred to PF leader Michael Sata as an impotent man who was scared of an election said he spoke anything because of his old age.

“Please munikhululukire ndine nkhalamba, ndine shimpundu monga uyu muyangu namuona ali apa. Nulabila vilivonse vikawela m’mutu. (Please forgive me I am an old man, I am a father of twins just like my friend here. I say anything that comes to my mind),” President Banda said.

He said MMD was supposed to be the one to block the opposition because it was in government. President Banda also unveiled what he termed the seven-point programme of development for his party. He claimed Zambians had more jobs during his time than ever before.

President Banda said if somebody played with a snake, they should expect to be bitten one day. Earlier in the day, President Banda spent about one and half hours in a closed-door meeting with Mpezeni at his Ephendukeni palace.

And Mpezeni, who was accompanied by his junior chiefs, said President Banda was his son and subject.

“You have to know that Rupiah Banda is my son. I appealed to late president Levy Mwanawasa that we need a Vice-President because we have continued suffering and that is how we were given Rupiah Banda,” said Mpezeni.

“Ba Sata is my son, Hakainde is my son. It doesn’t mean that when I am with them, then I have joined them. ”

And Kavindele told the people that if he disclosed the reason President Banda relieved Mangani of his position as home affairs minister, they would be shocked.

“Every situation has a Judas Iscariot. If one person is relieved of their duties, does it mean that the whole country has been displaced?

“If we want, we can disclose what made the President demote Mangani. If I told you, you will be shocked,” said Kavindele.

The MMD ferried cadres from all the districts in the province.

And the MMD leadership in the province hired cyclists to cycle around Chipata centre and later escort President Banda to the venue of the rally, an imitation of Lameck Mangani’s thunderous welcome from Chipata Airport about a month ago when he resigned from the MMD.

President Banda was accompanied by, among others, Vernon Mwaanga, Sakwiba Sikota and Grace Njapau.
